On one particular day, I planned to reach Potato Head Club in time for the sunset by strolling along Pantai Legian Beach.

While walking along the roadside, I spotted a shop that was open. I asked if they were serving bakso, and an older gentleman cheerfully replied, “I’ll bring you a bowl of bakso, just wait a moment.” Trusting his words, I sat down and waited. Shortly thereafter, he returned carrying a steaming bowl of bakso along with a drink he tried to push on me.

I was taken aback by his insistence on selling me the beverage along with the meal. Later, I learned that it was simply the custom here to charge for the seat, which included a mandatory beverage fee. Moreover, the bakso wasn’t even freshly made at that shop—it had been brought in from another street vendor. So, I ended up paying both for the bowl of bakso and an extra “seat fee” (the drink charge). Even though I felt a pang of disappointment, the warm soup managed to thaw my chilled body in the brisk, slightly cold wind.

식사를 마친 후, 다시 발길을 돌려 포테이토헤드 클럽을 향해 걸음을 옮겼다. 걸으며 해변가를 따라 운동도 겸한 산책을 하니, 밀물과 썰물이 반복되는 자연의 리듬이 내 마음을 한층 시원하게 해주었다. 썰물 때 드러나는 넓은 모래사장과 그 위에 비치는 푸른 하늘, 그리고 고요한 바다가 어우러져 한 폭의 그림 같은 풍경을 선사했다. 이런 순간순간들이 내 여행을 더욱 특별하게 만들어주었다.

After that satisfying, if somewhat complicated, meal, I got back on my feet and resumed my walk towards Potato Head Club. As I strolled along the beachfront, both for exercise and leisure, I couldn’t help but feel refreshed as I watched the rhythm of the incoming and outgoing tides. The cool breeze and the beautifully reflected sky during low tide made everything feel magical.
